Description

This introductory relief carving workshop explores linocut printmaking using nature imagery and the foundational principles and techniques used in block printing.

In this workshop, students will have the opportunity to explore block printing through a series of exercises geared towards converting a personalized photograph or a pencil sketch into a contemporary linoleum print. Guests will learn to carve and print a 4 x 6 inch rubber block using a carving tool. After the block is carved, learn to block-print a series of handmade cards using non-toxic, water-soluble inks.

No experience is required. This is a fun day of art and a guided process, which will take you step by step. Whether you’re new to printmaking or looking to try something different, this workshop is great for anyone who would like to learn block-carving or expand on their current skills.

This hands-on workshop offers a supportive space to create something truly one-of-a-kind.

Please note that the class requires students to prepare photographs or sketches ahead of time. Block-carving also requires hand dexterity to maneuver the carving tools. Participants should feel comfortable using tools with sharp blades and edges.
