Drawing Fundamentals: Explore, Practice & Play

When: Wednesday October 14 & 21, *2 dates cover different elements:

*The first class will cover 1 and 2 dimensional design. The second class will cover 3 dimensional design.

These two-hour classes offer a relaxed, hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of drawing while encouraging experimentation and creative exploration. Participants will explore a variety of techniques for creating form, depth, light, and dimension—including pencil pressure, light and dark shading, basic shapes found in nature, simple perspective, lost-and-found edges, drop shadows, symmetry, specular highlights, and drawing from life.

We’ll also make room for playful approaches to drawing, including free-form doodling and Neurographic Art—and, even learning how to draw a straight line!

Each class is designed to build confidence, improve hand-eye coordination, and help participants become more comfortable seeing and translating what they observe onto paper. Beginners are welcome, and more experienced artists can use the exercises to refresh, experiment, and expand their skills.

Calistoga Art Center will have most materials for you to use but if you would like to bring your own below are the suggested materials for this workshop:

• graphite pencils #2B - #4

• kneaded eraser

• 9” X 12” sketch book (wire bound)

• pencil sharpener

• masking Tape

• drawing board (15” X 15” at least)

Extras: mono KNOCK eraser, pigma Micron .05 archival ink pen
